France’s Ministry of Health has announced new funding awards for the country’s assorted ehealth programmes. A further €77 million has been awarded.
This is a tiny increase compared to the massive sums being spent in Germany and the UK. But the French Government believes it can achieve its goals for a fraction of the money being spent by its neighbours by building on existing infrastructure.
Most of the new money is going to the three major ehealth programmes: national EHR (the DMP); telemedicine; and the new Digital Hospital programme. However some money is going to new initiatives aimed at personal health, such as assistive systems and patient involvement.
At the same time, the DGOS — the body that directs and monitors French hospitals — has announced progress in setting up the Digital Hospital programme. The programme is a five year road map to foster innovation and implement a new generation of clinical and hospital information systems across French hospitals.
Two working groups have been set up to oversee the programme, launched by DGOS chief Annie Podeur at the GERONT EXPO in May. One group will work on establishing performance related funding mechanisms for the programme. The second group will work on developing a certification process for software within the programme.
